Air Tankers In Basin Fire

The fire began the afternoon of 5/10 20-30 miles south of Mesquite, NV near the Arizona & Nevada border. The area has been under a Red Flag Warning since May 10th early morning for

dry lightning, low relative humidity and gusty winds. Called to respond to the lightning caused fire were both Tankers 912 & 910, as well as other aerial assets.

Here are some overhead shots of the south end of the Basin Fire looking at a line laid by T912 (courtesy of RK Smithley).

The fire was at 10,000 acres on 5/11 and ended at 38,000 the afternoon of 5/12.

Here’s a photo of T912 last drop over a beautiful plateau.
